KATHMANDU: Nepal’s major rivers remain below the alert level, but authorities have warned of a possible sharp rise in water levels and an increased risk of flash floods across dozens of districts during the day and night.
According to the Flood Forecasting Division, the flow of the Koshi, Narayani, Bagmati, Karnali, and Mahakali rivers and their tributaries remains below the warning threshold. The Kankai, Kamala, Babai, East Rapti, and West Rapti rivers are also flowing below alert level.
However, the Division said water levels in these rivers could rise significantly later in the day and overnight due to ongoing rainfall. It has also warned that small rivers and streams in several districts are likely to swell considerably, creating a moderate risk of flash floods.
The districts under increased risk include Taplejung, Sankhuwasabha, Solukhumbu, Dolakha, Ramechhap, Kavrepalanchok, Sindhupalchowk, Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur, Makawanpur, Chitwan, Nawalparasi East, Nawalparasi West, Rupandehi, Kapilvastu, Palpa, Tanahu, Syangja, Lamjung, Kaski, Parbat, Myagdi, Rolpa, Salyan, Rukum West, Jajarkot, Surkhet, Dailekh, Achham, Kalikot, Bajura, Humla, Bajhang, Darchula, Baitadi, Doti, Dadeldhura, Banke, Bardiya, Kailali, Kanchanpur, and surrounding areas.
