KATHMANDU: Thousands of aspiring migrant workers face severe disruption after the Nepal Association of Foreign Employment Agencies (NAFEA) completely shut down manpower agencies across the country on Monday, halting all foreign employment processes to pressure the government into addressing its unaddressed demands.
The NAFEA stated that despite repeatedly requesting the government to address its demands, it decided to intensify its protest after being ignored.
Earlier during the agitation, pre-final labor approvals, publication of advertisements for new demand letters, and visa stamping tasks were suspended.
The Association decided to close the manpower offices after the deadline given to allow workers who had already obtained labor approval for foreign employment to fly out had expired.
Due to the manpower entrepreneurs’ protest, all services—including new demand letter processing, worker selection, document preparation, and dispatching workers abroad—will be affected.
Urging the government to address its demands immediately, the Association indicated that the protest will continue until their demands are met. The closure by entrepreneurs is expected to impact thousands of workers preparing to go for foreign employment.
