Nepal Police issue travel advisory as landslides block multiple highways nationwide

A A+ A-

KATHMANDU: Nepal Police have released an updated traffic advisory detailing major highway disruptions across the country due to monsoon-induced landslides, mudflows, and road collapses.

Commuters and transport operators are urged to verify road conditions prior to travel, as several major transit corridors remain either completely impassable or restricted by strict night-traffic bans.

Along the BP Highway connecting Kavre and Sindhuli, night travel between Khurkot, Nepalthok, and Katunje Besi remains prohibited from 6:00 PM to 4:00 AM due to flash flood risks, though day traffic continues during permitted hours.

Similarly, Makwanpur’s Kanti Lokpath has suspended all night movement from 5:00 PM to 5:00 AM until further notice.

Complete blockages have been reported on the Mechi Highway at Rajduwali in Ilam due to severe mud accumulation—where an alternative route is active—as well as the Arniko Highway in Sindhupalchok, which remains shut at Iku and Liping following landslides and structural road failures.

Further disruptions span across multiple rural corridors and high-altitude transport routes.

In Rasuwa, severe erosion by the Trishuli River has swept away the road bed along the Pasang Lhamu Highway at Khalte, completely cutting off vehicular access toward Syabrubesi.

Landslides and mudflows have also halted traffic on the Bheri Corridor at Rijegard Khola along the Jajarkot–Dolpa stretch, the Koshi Highway near Sirek Danda in Sankhuwasabha after a 10-meter road section collapsed, the Besishahar–Manang Road at Rambazar in Lamjung, and the Beni–Jomsom Road at Rukse in Myagdi.

Police authorities strongly urge the public to exercise caution, plan journeys around local weather conditions, and contact emergency dispatch at 100 or toll-free at 16600141516 for real-time highway updates.
